Q1: Characterisation of the laser-tissue interaction

Project manager:
Dr. Med. Rudolf Guthoff
Dr. Nat. Sci.[rer. nat.] Alexander Heisterkamp

In the cross-section project “Multimodal in-vivo imaging” basic methods and device developments on linear and non-linear microscopy are done whose benefits are shown on various model systems. In the Subproject Q1, expanding these basic studies, intra and periimplant processes are to be done microscopically in three-dimension and over time. During the course of the project up to now, the work has primarily focused on the following research concentrations:

  1. Identification and comparison of suitable strategies for imaging through in-vitro studies on cultivated cells.
  2. Comparison and verification of the targeted results between Rostock and Hannover
  3. Adaptation and optimisation to the requirements of the specific applications of the individual composite projects.
  4. Increasing the contrast by increasing the fluorescence or scattered light yield using nanoparticles, quantum dots and other agents.

Q2: Development and implementation of tests for biocompatibility

Project manager:
Dr. Nat. Sci.[rer. nat.] Anneke Loos
Dr. Eng. Birgit Glasmacher
Dr. Nat. Sci.[rer. nat.] habil. Marian Löbler

All projects for the applied development of new materials and medical products must verify the biological safety of their product or material developments. The required biocompatibility testing is described, for example, in ISO 10993, in part associated with the limitation that an adaptation of the test to the respective test object is necessary (such as, for example, for the haemocompatibility tests required according to ISO 10993-4). The Subproject Q2 bundles the expertise on the implementation of biocompatibility or haemocompatibility testing and provides the know-how of three research facilities to the TR37 subprojects.
